Conflict
The conflict of the Vietnam War leads back to
years before there was a separation in the country. During World War II, the
Japanese controlled Indochina. After the fall of Japan in WWII, France took
over and controlled Indochina during the First Indochina War.
The
signing of the Geneva Accords divided Vietnam in half and said Vietnam would
have elections in two years to decide which kind of government Vietnam would
unite under. The U.S. opposed and did
not allow the accords or elections. Negotiations resulted in Ho Chi Minh controlling North Vietnam and Bao Dai controlling South Vietnam.
